Glamorgan reveal record profits
Glamorgan have bucked the financial trend by announcing a record profit of almost £1million for the last calendar year.
Despite the economic downturn, the county reported a gross operating profit of £992,879 for the 13 months ending December 31 2008, more than double the previous year.
The news comes as a huge boon for Glamorgan, who boasted turnover of £6,772,437 – up 115% on the 2007 figure.
The huge rise owes much to Cardiff hosting the first Ashes Test between England and Australia this summer, which has helped attract new members and corporate customers.
Glamorgan also paid back £250,000 of its bank loan for the first time in the club’s history.
“Everyone has worked tirelessly to achieve these record results,” said president David East. “We are extremely appreciative of the continued support from our members, supporters, corporate guests and ever-increasing list of sponsors.
“We are a Test match ground and Glamorgan Cricket has proved that it is a successful business off the field.
"We look forward to an exciting season on the field following the record investments that we have made in the team this year.”
