Early departure for Brown

Geraint Jones & David Brown

David Brown was a useful all-round option for four seasons, but James Franklin's arrival at Bristol left first XI action scarce

Gloucestershire have announced that all-rounder David Brown will leave the club in the close-season, a year ahead of the end of his current contract.

Brown, 26, the brother of current Surrey batsman Michael, burst onto the scene in 2006, scoring 63 not out off 26 balls in a Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy match.

He played a number of LV= County Championship games in 2008, but the arrival of New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin meant he was confined to just a handful of outings in one-day competitions this season.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: “As an all-rounder, David has had few opportunities this season and, looking forward, we both agreed that it would be in everyone’s best interest if he moved on.

“We would all like to express our gratitude to David for his four seasons at the club and wish him every success in the future.”

Brown said: “I have really enjoyed my years at Gloucestershire and would like to thank the players and members for all their support over the whole period.

“I wish the club every success for the future. I plan to continue my career and look forward to playing against my former colleagues soon.”
