Cowan in line for brief Bristol stint
Gloucestershire have revealed Australia Test batsman Ed Cowan is set to join the club on a short-term basis ahead of his country’s A tour of England.
Cowan, who has featured in Australia’s last seven five-day matches after making his debut against India in December 2011, will fill the gap between Kane Williamson’s recent departure and Rob Nicol’s arrival later this month, subject to a visa being obtained.
Gloucestershire expect Cowan to feature in their three remaining Friends Life t20 group matches this week. He should also be available for the LV= County Championship fixture against Essex at Cheltenham, along with Clydesdale Bank 40 games against Essex and Worcestershire.
Cowan will then captain Australia A as they take on Derbyshire and Durham before a two-match series against England Lions in August.
The gritty left-handed opener averages 40 in first-class cricket and 37 in the List A game.
