Nevil Road's capacity will increase to 20,000 spectators once the £10million work on Gloucestershire's home is completed
Gloucestershire are today looking forward to a future of “regular international cricket” in Bristol, following council approval for a £10million redevelopment of their Nevil Road ground.
Bristol City Council has approved the plans, which will increase capacity at the ground to 20,000.
A statement on Gloucestershire’s website said: “We are delighted that Bristol City Council has resolved to grant planning permission for developing our ground in Nevil Road.
“It is essential for the club to develop the ground in order to continue hosting regular international cricket here in Bristol.
“This development will bring many benefits, not only to our members and sports fans but also to the city of Bristol and the local region.
“There has been a lot of hard work put into this application, particularly with transport and access issues, and we are now looking forward to proceeding with our plans.”
Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson told the Gloucester Citizen: “This gives us an opportunity to crack on and get moving with this new development.
“There are still a number of stages and hurdles to deal with, but it does give us the opportunity to keep international matches in Bristol.”
