Steve Adshead is free to find a new county although he was a consistent Gloucestershire run-scorer this season
Gloucestershire have released wicketkeeper Steve Adshead despite an impressive 2009 season.
The 29-year-old, who contested gloveman duties with Steve Snell, played at least seven games in each competition.
The former Worcestershire keeper struck a career-best 156 not out against Essex in the LV= County Championship, a competition in which he averaged over 40.
He was even more impressive in the Friends Provident Trophy, averaging 53.6 in nine appearances.
Director of cricket John Bracewell said: “It is unfortunate to release Steve as he has performed very well for the first team this year. We must continue to strengthen the squad at every opportunity.
“We wish Steve every success and know that he will continue to prove to be a professional of the highest standard.”
Ashead, who joined the county in 2004, added: “I have really enjoyed my time at Gloucestershire and am sad to leave. I’d like to thank everyone at the club for their support.”
