Gloucestershire have completed a double swoop for young wicketkeepers Gareth Roderick and Cameron Herring.

Roderick, 21, has put to paper on a two-year contract following an excellent season with Cheltenham in the West of England Premier League.

Herring, four years younger than his new team-mate, has earned a year’s scholarship followed by a professional deal for another two after impressing for the county’s academy.

Director of cricket John Bracewell said: “Gareth Roderick has batted exceptionally well, not only for our second team, but in club cricket this season.

“With Jon Batty leaving us, we need competition for Richard Coughtrie behind the stumps next summer and believe Gareth is capable of providing it.”

Academy director Owen Dawkins said: “Cameron Herring worked on his wicketkeeping last winter under the guidance of Jack Russell and has kept for us in second XI and academy fixtures this season.

“We are looking to send him abroad this winter to gain experience of different conditions.”
