Gloucestershire received a visit from local MP Stephen Williams to see the new pitch drainage system at Bristol.
The installation is the first phase of works to improve the standard of facilities at the Nevil Road, the `World Class West campaign` launched in February.
Mr Williams said: “I’m pleased to support the first phase of Gloucestershire’s plans.
“With all of the cities’ cricket, football and rugby teams planning major upgrades to their facilities we will have much better sporting provision for both Bristolians and visitors to the city.
“It’s great to see that Gloucestershire are committed to investing money to improve its offer and contribute to helping us to achieve our aim.”
Chief executive Tom Richardson added: “I’m delighted to be moving 'World Class West' from the campaign trail and onto the first phase of development.
“This takes us a step closer to Nevil Road hosting more international cricket and we’re enormously grateful to Stephen Williams MP, for his continued support for our ambitions.”
Richardson continued: “The drainage system is much more spectator friendly and the intention is we’ll be back on the pitch an hour after it stops raining which is significantly shorter than what we are used to at the moment.”
“I’d like to thank the ECB for a significant financial contribution – this clearly demonstrates their support for our ambitions to create better facilities.”
