Hampshire suffer Afridi blow
Hampshire have announced that Shahid Afridi will no longer be available for this season’s Friends Life t20 campaign due to visa complications.
The Pakistan all-rounder agreed to rejoin Hampshire following an impressive spell in the 20-over tournament last year, only to see ongoing visa problems deny him the chance of returning to the Ageas Bowl.
The Royals have three South Group games remaining, including tonight’s trip to Surrey, and will continue with the same squad.
Manager Giles White said: “Although Shahid will not be returning to the Ageas Bowl this time around, the door is still open for him to return to Hampshire in future years should circumstances suit both parties.
“He obviously had a huge impact for us last year and has been missed. However, we are now deep into the 2012 competition and the side is settled so we don’t feel it is right to change that now.”
