Hampshire’s Champions League campaign ended on a sour note as they were defeated for the second time in as many days.

The Royals failed to emerge victorious versus Auckland Aces yesterday, ensuring they were not able to reach the tournament proper.

There was still the opportunity for redemption today against Sialkot Stallions, for whom the contest was also a dead rubber.

Yet it was the Pakistani side that came out on top, restricting Hampshire, who lost the toss, to 143 for eight.

Haris Sohail then struck an unbeaten half-century as Sialkot easily emerged victorious by six wickets.

Much like in the match against Auckland, Hampshire were left rueing their profligacy with the bat as no-one with the exception of Glenn Maxwell passed 20.

Maxwell played himself in impressively before striking four fours and three huge sixes over square-leg in a 29-ball 42.

Despite being the Stallions’ most expensive bowler, Umaid Asif emerged with the best figures of 2-42.

Hampshire responded impressively as Liam Dawson, David Griffiths and Chris Wood claimed a wicket apiece to restrict Sialkot to 28 for three.

Sohail and Shoaib Malik delivered a fine riposte, however, putting on 96 to steer their side to the brink of victory.

The latter eventually fell to countryman Shahid Afridi for 39, yet the former stuck around to end unbeaten on 63.
