Clark tries again with Kent

Kent CCC

Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark had his proposed spell with Kent in 2009 cut short but is due back at the county for the start of the 2010 season

Kent have confirmed Australia seamer Stuart Clark will be their overseas player for the first half of this season.

The 34-year-old had been set to join the county in a similar deal last year, but his recall to the Australia side due to an injury to Brett Geeves meant he was summoned back for the final two one-day internationals against South Africa in Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg instead.

He then also played a part in Australia’s one-day series with Pakistan in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, meaning he failed to appear for the county at all during 2009.

Clark featured in the final two Tests of last summer’s Ashes series, while he also played a key role in the Australia side that secured an Ashes whitewash in the 2006-07 series, taking 26 wickets at an average of 17.

The seamer had a short-term move to Gloucestershire in 2009 halted after visa problems, although he has previous experience of county cricket having played for Middlesex in 2005 and Hampshire in 2007.

Kent's team director, Paul Farbrace, said: "We are delighted to finally sign Stuart.

“He is an attractive signing for us because he is not playing in the Indian Premier League and will be available for the first half of the summer.

“He is an exceptional bowler and will offer a lot; both on and off the field.”

Kent's chairman of cricket, Graham Johnson, added: "Stuart is a tremendous character and has the ability and experience that we are looking for.

“He is a genuine wicket-taker and will bring a great amount to the side. He has a positive outlook and will prove a great addition."
