Kent and England Lions paceman Robbie Joseph will next week step up his comeback from a shoulder injury that ruled him out of the second half of the season.

Joseph, who suffered the setback in the field against Surrey during the Twenty20 Cup encounter at the Brit Oval in June, is due to begin light training following an operation on his torn right shoulder.

According to Kent’s website, surgeon Andrew Wallace from St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, near Lord’s, is 95% certain that Joseph will make a full recovery.

The 28-year-old went to India a year ago with the England Performance Programme and was called up to the Lions’ tour of New Zealand in February as a replacement for county team-mate Amjad Khan.

However, his shoulder injury hampered his case for inclusion in this year’s Performance intake, due to travel to South Africa in a fortnight.

Joseph said: “The shoulder is good. It was extremely painful for the first few days after the operation but it is now feeling much better and I’m at a stage where I can start rolling my arm over again.

“I will start running next week and cannot wait to start bowling again.”
