Dominic Cork will be released by Lancashire at the end of the season.
The 37-year-old is being allowed to leave to give some of the younger players at Old Trafford more first-team opportunities.
Cork joined Lancashire back in 2003 after spending most of his career with Derbyshire - whom he briefly captained.
A statement released by Lancashire said Cork “has been a great ambassador for Lancashire both on and off the field”.
It continued: “It would be a fitting end if he was to complete his Old Trafford career on a high note, by helping Lancashire to win the elusive championship title.”
Cork has taken 16 championship wickets this term at a shade under 26, whilst also averaging over 20 with the bat.
Leg-spinner Simon Marshall, 26, is also on his way out at the end of the current campaign.
