Cumbes backs Flintoff IPL move
Lancashire chief executive Jim Cumbes claims playing in the Indian Premier League would be a “wonderful opportunity” for Andrew Flintoff.
The Lancashire all-rounder is among the England players who have been cleared to take part in the tournament following their return from the current tour of the West Indies.
Flintoff is expected to attract sizeable bids when the IPL auction begins next month, although any deal would mean he would be unavailable at the start of the county season.
“At this moment in time, Lancashire has not been approached by anyone involved with the IPL to enquire about Andrew’s availability,” said Cumbes. “However, I’m sure that’s only a matter of time.
“Naturally, we would be disappointed not to have Andrew play for us when the England players are available at the start of the domestic season, but, as with Brad Hodge last season, we recognise that this is a wonderful opportunity for him.
“If arrangements work for both ourselves and Andrew, than we wouldn’t have an issue in letting him play in this year’s IPL.”
