Cumbes to carry on as chairman

Jim Cumbes has been reinstated as chairman of the county chief executives

Lancashire chief executive Jim Cumbes will continue as chairman of the county chief executives for the foreseeable future.

Cumbes had initially decided to stand down at the end of 2008 as he was due to retire from Lancashire this year.

However, having been asked by the Lancashire committee to remain as the club’s chief executive on an extended basis after he reaches the official retirement age in May 2009, he reversed his decision.

On confirming the news, Cumbes said: “It’s nice to be asked by my county peers to remain in the position of chairman.

“I originally decided to stand down as I was due to retire, but with circumstances changing, the other chief executives asked me to continue on in the post, something I’m very happy to do.

“These are exciting times for domestic cricket and cricket in general. But there are also many challenges we face, and it’s important that the counties are heard and play their part in the development of cricket throughout England and Wales.”
