Lancashire left-arm spinner Gary Keedy has been awarded a benefit in 2009 after a 14-season spell at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old arrived at Lancashire from Yorkshire in 1995 and has been a loyal and dedicated member of the playing staff with the Red Rose, during which time he has made over 200 first team appearances.
Keedy, who was awarded his county cap in 2000, has taken 499 wickets at an average of 31.76 in first-class cricket and, although not known for his batting, has made some valuable and memorable contributions over the years culminating in achieving his highest first-class score of 64 earlier this season against Sussex at Hove.
He said: “It’s a huge honour to be awarded with a benefit season and I would like to thank Lancashire for this humbling acknowledgement.
"Since I joined in 1995, I have been lucky to play with some extremely talented cricketers, so receiving this honour makes me feel very privileged.
"I am fortunate to have some great memories since I joined the club and hope that there will be many more to come.”
Lancashire chairman Michael Cairns said: “The club is officially recognising the long and outstanding service, to both Lancashire and to local sport, by rewarding Gary with a richly deserved benefit year in 2009.”
Lancashire chief executive Jim Cumbes said: “Some people might find it ironic that Lancashire is rewarding a Yorkshireman for outstanding service, but it would be very hard to find a better clubman in sport.
“Gary has been a huge asset to Lancashire both on and off the field. His professionalism and dedication is unwavering, and he is a firm favourite with both members and supporters.
“We hope this will be a successful year for Gary and he receives the support of cricket followers and members alike.”
