Moores nets new Lancashire deal

Head coach Peter Moores has committed his future to county champions Lancashire by signing a new two-year contract extension
Head coach Peter Moores has signed a new two-year contract extension at county champions Lancashire.
The former England coach will stay at Old Trafford until 2014, having guided the Red Rose to their first outright title in 77 years in his third season at the helm.
Moores, who also won the County Championship with Sussex in 2003, said: “I am really pleased to commit to Lancashire in what is a very exciting time for the club.
“Since arriving here the players and staff have been fantastic and I have enjoyed my time immensely.
"I am looking forward to working with everyone at the club over the coming years to try and build on the success of last season.”
Moores landed the Lancashire job in 2009, just five weeks after leaving the same role with England, and filled the void created by a new coaching structure which saw cricket manager Mike Watkinson step up to assume the role of director of cricket.
Watkinson added: “Three years ago we restructured the cricket department which gave us the opportunity to create a role for a dedicated head coach who was able to concentrate on the development and performance of the professional squad and to have an input in the junior development programme.
“Peter already proved that he was one of the most successful coaches in cricket and since he’s been at Old Trafford he has brought the very best out of a largely home grown squad which culminated in our first outright County Championship title in 77 years.
“I am delighted that we are able to continue with him heading our coaching team over the coming years.”
