Ashwell Prince has enjoyed two spells at Lancashire and will return in the 2012 season as the county champions defend their crown
South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince will enjoy a third spell at Lancashire after being signed as the county champions’ main overseas player for 2012.
The club announced this morning the 34-year-old, who was with the Red Rose in 2009 and 2010, will play in the LV= County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40.
Prince’s arrival bolsters a squad which won the club’s first outright title in 77 years last season.
He said: “I am delighted to be returning to Lancashire for the 2012 season.
“I love the place and how the lads go about their work. I’m really looking forward to joining up with the squad in early April and contributing to a successful campaign.”
Director of cricket Mike Watkinson said: “Ashwell is a world-class batsman who has a wealth of experience and talent.
“He will bring additional quality to the top order and will have a positive influence on the squad. We are delighted to welcome him back to Old Trafford.”
Head coach Peter Moores said: “It is fantastic news that Ashwell has rejoined the club.
“He is a tough competitor who has enjoyed success here before and he will bring some maturity to an emerging squad.”
