Buck and Wyatt win Foxes Bake Off
Nathan Buck and Alex Wyatt won Leicestershire’s Bake Off, held in aid of Comic Relief ahead of Red Nose Day on Friday 15 March.
The baking event, which is part of a series of Comic Relief bake offs headed by BBC’s Mary Berry, was held in the Charles Palmer Suite at Grace Road today.
Buck and Wyatt beat the team consisting of Josh Cobb and Shiv Thakor, and that of James Sykes and Ned Eckersley.

Everybody had great fun; there was plenty of social media interaction on the day as fans tweeted who they thought would be the best baker with the hashtag #foxesbakeoff
It turned out that Cobb/Thakor and Eckersley/Sykes were highly-fancied by the fans, but Buck and Wyatt quietly went about their business.
Their cakes looked to be the best as they came out of the oven and were then decorated to a high standard. That allowed them to clinch the crown awarded by Leicester College bakery assessor Chris Burton and Leicestershire’s catering manager John Stew.
Baking is a key ingredient of this year’s Red Nose Day fundraising efforts, with bake sales and coffee mornings being held to raise money for those living incredibly tough lives in the UK and Africa.
Buck said: “Of course winning is a brilliant feeling, but it’s made even better knowing that it’s in aid of such a great cause. We encourage everyone to get messy in the kitchen and fundraise for Red Nose Day. It’s a piece of cake!”
Not deterred by the loss, Cobb said: “We might not have won but we have had great fun taking part in today’s competition. It just goes to show that you don’t have to be as good a baker as Mary Berry to have fun baking. So come on Leicestershire, do something funny for money on Friday, March 15.”
