Toby Radford has resigned as Middlesex’s first-team coach after becoming unhappy with a changed role at the club this season.

Radford, who represented the county as a player and academy director before replacing former coach Richard Pybus in 2007, claimed his work with the team had changed this year due to a restructuring drive behind the scenes.

Former England seamer Angus Fraser was brought in by Middlesex in January in the newly-created role of managing director of cricket.

Radford said: “I asked to leave because this season's role has been very different from what it was last year.

“I very much enjoyed my five years of coaching at the club, and will miss many of the staff and players with whom I have worked during that time.

“I wish Middlesex and the players every success for the rest of this season and for seasons to come.”

Chief executive Vinny Codrington said: “We have had a significant restructuring of our cricket department in the last year and Toby has decided that he would prefer to pursue his opportunities elsewhere.

“He leaves with our thanks for his magnificent efforts with our academy and our first and second teams, culminating in the pivotal role he played in our victory in last year’s Twenty20 Cup.

“He will remain a friend of the club for many years to come and we will miss him.”

Under Radford, Middlesex won the 2008 Twenty20 Cup - earning a place in the Stanford Super Series - but they struggled in other formats.

He leaves the side winless and bottom of the LV= County Championship second tier, while two wins in 10 matches also left the Panthers bottom of this season’s Twenty20 Cup South Division standings.
