Kartik and Malan sign on
Middlesex have moved to keep their successful squad together by re-signing Murali Kartik and tying down Dawid Malan on a new contract.
Indian left-arm spinner Kartik will return as overseas player in 2009 - his third season at Lord’s - while promising batsman Malan has put pen to paper on a “long-term" deal.
Both played a key role in Middlesex’s Twenty20 Cup triumph this summer, Kartik claiming 14 wickets at 20 apiece and Malan scoring 303 runs at an average of 75.
“I am delighted and honoured to be back at Middlesex for the third year in a row,” said Kartik, who will form part of the Middlesex squad that will compete in the Stanford Super Series next month and the Twenty20 Champions League later in the year.
“I'm looking forward to the Stanford Super Series and the Champions League and helping to bring more success next year.
“With the potential and young talent at the club, we can look forward to exciting times and I am very much looking forward to it.”
Malan, 21, is among Middlesex’s talented group of youngsters, having showcased his ability with a sensational 51-ball century in the Twenty20 Cup quarter-final against Lancashire.
Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: “We are delighted that Kartik and Dawid have re-signed for Middlesex.
“Dawid is a real star of the future and one to watch, and Kartik has been a great overseas signing for us and I'm sure will continue to bring experience, intelligence and motivation to our predominantly young squad.”
