England and Middlesex batsman Owais Shah has signed a new long-term contract to keep him at Lord’s for the foreseeable future.

Shah is currently representing England in the NatWest Series against South Africa and played in the opening game 20-run victory at Headingley Carnegie on Friday.

The 29-year-old is also in a benefit year with Middlesex and has notched up two LV County Championship hundreds in 10 appearances this term.

The former skipper played a starring role in this season’s Twenty20 Cup triumph, cracking 75 from just 35 deliveries in the final to help Middlesex to a 3-run victory over Kent.

“The thought of not playing for Middlesex and not playing at Lord's was one I couldn't really come to terms with,” Shah said.

“With the potential in the current squad, I am sure that we can seriously challenge for honours in the next few years.”

Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: “It is great news that a player as highly regarded as Owais has committed his future to Middlesex.

“I am sure we can build on the success achieved this year with players of his quality in our side.”
