Northamptonshire have agreed a one-year deal with 24-year-old seamer Jack Brooks.
Oxfordshire-based Brooks has been on trial at both Northants and Surrey during the 2008 season and has been particularly impressive playing for Northamptonshire’s second XI, with best figures of 6-90 at Wantage Road against Warwickshire.
Brooks said: “I am extremely pleased that we have agreed a one-year contract. Having played for Oxfordshire in the minor counties, I was hoping to take the next step and move into the professional game, and I am thankful for that opportunity.
“I am now looking forward to working with the coaches in the winter to improve my game with the intention of staking a claim for first team opportunities in 2009.”
Academy director David Ripley said: “Jack is a player we have kept our eye on over the summer and he has certainly turned our heads.
“He has been plying his trade for Oxford CC in the Home Counties League and been very successful, and together with this has shown he has what it takes to be successful at second XI county level and with his talent, we will look for him to push for a first team place next season.”
