Northamptonshire have confirmed that seamer David Burton has been released from his contract.

The 27-year-old has featured in only eight games during the 2012 season, deeming him surplus to requirements at Wantage Road.

Head coach David Ripley said: "Dave worked very hard to earn his contract last year and provided good competition for the squad, but only managed to force his way into the first team for one first-class game.

“I would like to wish Dave all the best in his future endeavours."
