New disability project at Northants

Northants Cricket

Northamptonshire Recreational Cricket is delighted to announce that they have secured funding for a two-year programme to make cricket available to the county’s disabled community.

A major contribution towards the funding has been provided by the Northamptonshire County Cricket Youth Trust and chairman of the trustees Simon Schanschieff said, "The trustees are very happy to support such a worthwhile scheme bringing the wonderful game of cricket to a wider audience.

"The charity, of course, has limited funds but we believe that this project will make a huge impact throughout the county and encourage more young people of all abilities to engage with a healthy lifestyle".

The programme which will deliver at least 20 hours per week of structured coaching has the aim of introducing new players to the game and to offer a full player development pathway (similar to that which the county offer for able bodied cricketers) so that disabled cricketers in the county can realise their full playing potential.

Programme Manager Barry McKenna said "This is a really important and exciting initiative for Northamptonshire Cricket and we would like to thank the Youth Trust for the support they have offered for the programme.

"It means that we are now able to fully commit to a long term coaching plan within Northamptonshire and that our objective to have a county representative team competing at national level is very much achievable.”
