Mark Nelson, background, converges on Jack Brooks during Northamptonshire's tour game with Australia at Northampton
Northamptonshire have announced they will release all-rounder Mark Nelson at the end of the current season.
Nelson, 22, a former England Under-19 international, has spent two years on the Northants staff but has been unable to break into the first-team on a consistent basis.
The majority of Nelson’s season has been spent in the second XI and with Northampton Saints in the Northants Cricket League, though he did hit 74 against Derbyshire in the Friends Provident Trophy.
He also played in Northants' tour match with Australia at Wantage Road.
Northants head coach David Capel said: “I would like to thank Mark for all he has done for Northants Cricket. I have found him to be one of the most pleasant and likeable characters I’ve ever worked with in the game.
“Soon to be 23 years old, it is now time for Mark to be playing first XI cricket consistently. Those opportunities are unlikely to come here in the 2010 season, so it is important that he has the chance to find that opportunity at another county.
“However, I am sure it is the right decision for Mark and for the club. I personally wish him every success for his future career.”
