Bright future for Wantage Road

Wantage Road, Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire's County Ground will play host to seven games under floodlights in the coming season

Work has begun on the installation of six state-of-the-art floodlights at Northamptonshire's County Ground.

The project will take eight weeks in total with the contractors building the foundations for the six 48-metre towers over the next six weeks.

The first match under the club’s new floodlights will be the ECB 40 League encounter against Derbyshire on May 7 with a 4.15pm start.

“This is fantastic news for Northants Cricket,” said chief executive Mark Tagg. “Our development plan is underway, with this the first stage of our vision to make the County Ground one the best cricket venues in the country.

“All of our midweek games will be under these new floodlights enabling a later start time make the games more accessible to all.

"Cricket played under lights will be more spectacular, far more entertaining and a boost to Northamptonshire’s sporting legacy.”

Seven games under lights have been confirmed already for the 2010 season.

Supporters will also be able to enjoy a Twenty20 tour match against the world champions Pakistan, five 40 League group matches, eight LV= County Championship games and two ‘A’ one-day internationals at the County Ground.
