Experienced spinning all-rounder James Middlebrook, right, is the kind of senior player every dressing room wants," according to Northamptonshire head coach David Ripley

The veteran scored 714 LV= County Championship runs at an average of 40 and also chipped in with 24 wickets.

Improving seamer Evans, meanwhile, has earned a one-year contract after impressing in the latter stages of the 2012 season.

Head coach David Ripley said: “I am very pleased that James’ consistency has been rewarded. His all-round game seems to be growing each year and he is the kind of senior player every dressing room wants.

“Luke had an outstanding end to the season and we are all looking forward to him building on that, with the obvious attributes he has to become a top-class bowler.”
