Vaas ruled out for season

Northamptonshire have announced veteran left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas will miss the remainder of the domestic campaign due to injury.

The 38-year-old former Sri Lanka star has featured in six LV= County Championship Division Two matches this term, but various persistent fitness problems mean his campaign is to come to a premature close.

Originally signed in 2010 as the club’s Friends Life t20 overseas signing, Vaas was named as Northants’ player of the year in 2011.

Northants Cricket chief executive David Smith said: “This is disappointing news for Chaminda and the team.

"Chaminda played such an important role for the club over the past couple of years. We wish him well in his recovery.”
