Willey and Peters sign on at Northants

Stephen Peters' three hundreds have helped Northamptonshire enter the promotion race in Division Two
David Willey and Stephen Peters have signed contract extensions with Northamptonshire until the end of the 2011 season.
Willey, 19, the son of former England and Northants player Peter, signed a professional deal this year, but the all-rounder has extended his current deal by a further year.
Willey has impressed onlookers with his cool head with the ball in Twenty20 Cup cricket, taking 10 wickets at an average of 11.3, and contributed some doughty innings with the bat in the LV= County Championship. He is also a brilliant fielder.
Peters, the 30-year-old former Essex and Worcestershire opener, celebrated the signing of a new contract with a brilliant 163 against Glamorgan in the ongoing championship match.
Peters has stood head and shoulders above Northants’ other batsmen this year, and has made three of Northants’ five championship hundreds.
Northants head coach David Capel said: “I’m pleased with David’s progress throughout the season and look forward to seeing that continue over the next couple of years.
“I see David as a talented all rounder and will look to see him develop in all areas and formats of the game.
“Stephen’s signing an extension is another important step for the club and the player. I am delighted he has committed to the club as this season he has again proved that he is a very valuable member of our squad.
“What pleases me most is that he is still improving as a cricketer and there is plenty more to come from him.”
