India batsman VVS Laxman will join Nottinghamshire in August as a replacement for Adam Voges.
The 33-year-old, who played five games for Lancashire towards the end of last season, will provide overseas cover for Voges when he returns home to Australia.
“I’ve heard lots of great things about Nottinghamshire and I’m really looking forward to playing there at the end of the season,” said Laxman, who averaged 54 for Lancashire last year after completing India’s tour of England.
“I’ve played at Trent Bridge a few times and want to score a lot of runs for the team. Hopefully it will be a successful time for the club and I can make a positive impact.”
Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said: “Laxman is a world-class player and he doesn’t play one-day cricket for India so he can commit to us at a time when a lot of players will be involved in international tournaments.
“He is an accomplished international batsman with excellent footwork and he reads spin very well. He is a big name and we’re pleased that he has agreed to join us.”
Voges - himself a replacement for compatriot David Hussey - will play his final LV County Championship game against Durham starting on August 12, and Laxman is set to make his debut against Sussex at Hove at August 27.
