Newman stays with Notts

Scott Newman will be hoping to impress Nottinghamshire sufficiently to earn a permanent contract at Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire have extended Scott Newman’s loan deal until the end of the season.

The Surrey opening batsman, 29, joined on a one-month loan, but will now remain at Trent Bridge for the remainder of the domestic campaign as he attempts to secure a permanent deal.

“The deal is essentially an extended trial for Scott and we’ll monitor his performances between now and the end of the season,” said Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell.

“I think that a number of counties will be interested in securing his services next season but we were keen to take the opportunity to have a closer look.”

Newman scored 87 in the first innings on his Notts debut against Somerset last month and is part of the team currently playing against Hampshire at Trent Bridge.
