TwelfthMan: My account
Australia batsman David Hussey will not play for Nottinghamshire this season after being ordered to rest by his national board.
Hussey was set to arrive at Trent Bridge at the start of the season, only to sign a contract to play in the Indian Premier League, which clashed with the early part of the domestic campaign.
He was then named in the Australia squad for the tour of the West Indies, although he played in only one game – the Twenty20 international defeat in Barbados, when he failed to score.
Hussey, who scored 1,219 runs at an average of 93 in the LV County Championship last season, was expected to join up with Notts later in the summer, but Cricket Australia have instructed him to play no cricket.
Compatriot Adam Voges, who has filled the role of overseas player in Hussey’s absence, will continue to deputise, although he will return home to fulfil international commitments after Notts’ championship game against Durham finishes on August 15.
“David’s situation has changed somewhat in that he is now centrally contracted by Australia so he won’t play for us at all this season,” said Notts director of cricket Mick Newell.
“I have spoken to him personally and he would have liked to have spent some time with us, but it isn’t going to be possible in the circumstances.
“He’s contracted to us for next season as well and we’re hopeful that we’ll see him at some stage, but Adam has proved to be an excellent acquisition and we’re pleased that he’ll have the chance to spend more time at Trent Bridge.”
Notts expect to sign a replacement overseas player for the last six weeks of the season, following Voges’ departure.
