Nottinghamshire have completed the signing of former Northamptonshire off-spinner Jason Brown.
The 34-year-old left Wantage Road at the end of the season, his 13th at the club, having taken 414 first-class wickets.
He has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Trent Bridge, a move that sees his reunited with former Northamptonshire colleague Graeme Swann.
“There’s going to be scope for me to play some good cricket at Notts, particularly with Graeme Swann and Samit Patel in the England one-day squad,” said Brown, who toured Sri Lanka with England in 2001 without playing a competitive match.
“I bowled a lot with Graeme at Wantage Road and we seemed to compliment each other. I’m pleased that he is getting opportunities with England and I can step in for Notts whenever he is unavailable.”
Notts director of cricket Mick Newell, who was keen to sign an experienced spinner following slow left-armer Rob Ferley’s departure to Kent, said: “We expect Graeme and Samit to be involved with England next year and that will provide opportunities for Jason.
“He’s an experienced player and there is a possibility we’ll deploy three spinners at times in one day formats.”
