Notts sign Carter

Young fast bowler Andy Carter has signed a one-year professional deal with Nottinghamshire.

Carter, 20, from Lincolnshire, joined Notts on trial last season and impressed sufficiently to secure an extended stay at Trent Bridge.

He has played a number of times for Notts Second XI since 2006, taking five-wicket hauls against Minor Counties Under-25s at Sookholme and MCC Young Cricketers at Nottingham Sports Ground last season.

Carter also played six Minor Counties matches for Lincolnshire in 2008.

“I want to produce good performances for the second team and force my way into contention for the first team,” said Carter.

“Having the security of a 12-month contract will allow me to concentrate on improving my game and it’s up to me to make an impact.”

Carter suffered an ankle injury playing for the Second XI in September but his fitness has improved since.

“I had some floating bone which sent sharp pains through my leg when I bowled but I am running again now and I’m looking forward to pre-season training,” he said.

“I’m ahead of schedule and more importantly there is no pain.

“I’ve been working hard with our fitness coach Kevin Paxton and I feel much better equipped for professional cricket having spent last summer at Trent Bridge.”
