Thirimanne denies Notts
Lahiru Thirimanne made a composed 70 to guide Sri Lanka A to a five-wicket victory over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
The 21-year-old put on 86 for the first wicket with Dimuth Karunaratne as the tourists chased down their revised target with eight balls to spare.
Rike Wessels and Steven Mullaney had made brisk half-centuries in Nottinghamshire’s 293 all out, Wessels smashing six fours and four sixes in his 43-ball 57 at the top of the order.
But Sachithra Serasinghe, who took 3-39, and Kanishka Alvitigala, with 3-63, helped peg back the hosts.
With seven overs lost from the run-chase after rain during the interval, Sri Lanka A were left chasing 272 for victory.
They looked in complete control at 193 for two, but Jake Ball and Brett Hutton struck in quick succession to leave them needing 55 from seven overs.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa smashed two sixes in an unbeaten 47 off just 29 balls to see them over the line.
