Notts tie up Wagh deal

Mark Wagh will be at Trent Bridge until the end of 2012

Nottinghamshire batsman Mark Wagh has signed a three-year contract extension to keep him at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2012 season.

The 32-year-old former Warwickshire player joined Nottinghamshire in late 2006 and scored 1,033 runs in last season's LV County Championship Division One campaign.

Director of cricket Mick Newell was keen to extend Wagh’s stay at Notts even though he had a year to run on his existing deal.

“Mark made a significant contribution last season and we’ll be looking for more of the same in 2009,” said Newell, who hopes to add at least one more player to his squad in time for the new season.

“As a consistent, English-qualified batsmen, he is a player who would be in high demand and both parties were keen on the extension.”

Wagh is currently recovering from the shoulder injury that dogged him for the final month of the domestic season but expects to make a full recovery in time for pre-season training.

“I enjoy playing for the club and I’ve got a good relationship with the management so it’s pleasing to have secured a new deal,” said Wagh.

“I’m making good progress with my recovery and I’m looking forward to playing for Notts for at least four more years.”
