Seamer Darren Pattinson could be on his way out of Nottinghamshire as he will have to register as an overseas player next season.

Pattinson, whose existing deal expires this summer, signing for Melbourne Renegades in next year's Big Bash in Australia means he is unable to maintain his status as an England qualified player, according to Nottinghamshire’s official website.

And the Trent Bridge outfit may decide to cut their ties with a player who has not played for them in the LV= County Championship this season due to a back injury.

Nottinghamshire have hardly struggled in his absence and are second in Division One, just a point behind leaders Warwickshire before the latest round of fixtures.

The 32-year-old has represented Chris Read’s side in both the Clydesdale Bank 40 - where he is the leading wicket-taker for Notts - and the Friends Life t20 but that may not be enough to earn him a new contract.

Pattinson, who was born in Grimsby but moved to Australia at the age of six, was plucked from obscurity to win a solitary Test cap for England against South Africa in 2008 after impressing in his debut season for Nottinghamshire.
