Veteran seamer Ben Phillips has signed a one-year contract extension with Nottinghamshire.

Phillips, who turned 38 on Sunday making him a year older than team-mate Andre Adams, played 13 LV= County Championship games this year, taking 30 wickets at 27.1 and hitting 257 runs, as Notts came fifth in Division One.

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Ben keeps himself in great condition and he was one of our stand-out bowlers in four-day cricket last season.

"He has an important role to play for us in the championship and, like Andre Adams, it works nicely for us to preserve him for that format."

Phillips joined Nottinghamshire from Somerset in November 2010 on a two-year deal and endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Trent Bridge, but maintained consistent form throughout 2012.

"Last season was enjoyable for me but we feel that we should be competing at the top end in the championship," said Phillips.

"I'm still enjoying my cricket and I feel that I still have a lot to offer but it is also rewarding to see young bowlers like Harry Gurney, Luke Fletcher and Andy Carter coming through."
