Prince to make championship debut

Nottinghamshire have named a 13-man squad to take on Sussex in the LV County Championship Division One match at Hove.

Ashwell Prince is set to make his first-class debut for the club after Nottinghamshire’s match against Durham was abandoned without a ball bowled. In doing so, he will become the 600th person to play first-class cricket for Nottinghamshire.

If coach Mick Newell decides to go with six batsmen, talented youngster Alex Hales will also make his championship debut.

Andrew Hodd

Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Samit Patel are all away on England duty for the NatWest Series, meaning Charlie Shreck and Darren Pattinson will lead the attack.

Paul Franks and Rob Ferley also come into contention, alongside all-rounders Mark Ealham and Andre Adams.

With Matt Prior away on England duty, Sussex have a more than able deputy behind the stumps in Andrew Hodd for the game against Nottinghamshire.

Chris Adams returns to championship action and leads a squad which includes youngsters Will Beer and Rory Hamilton-Brown alongside such experienced campaigners as Murray Goodwin and Jason Lewry.

Mushtaq Ahmed is still unavailable due to injury, meaning Ollie Rayner continues what has been a fine start to his first-class career.

Only 12 points separate the two sides, so they both have all to play for in what could be a crucial clash.
