Somerset have honoured Marcus Trescothick by naming the new members' stand at Taunton after their prolific opening batsman.

The former England player aims to respond with a century in tomorrow's make-or-break final LV County Championship match against Lancashire at his beloved County Ground.

Trescothick said: "It seems a bit strange having your name on one of the new stands in the ground redevelopment.

"It is not something that you think about in your career really, but having played here for 16 years and being at the end of my benefit season, it is a great honour to me."

He added: "Wouldn't it be great if I could go out tomorrow and score a century and hit a six into the new stand?"

Trescothick is optimistic of facing Lancashire despite a shoulder problem, which required a cortizone injection today.

"As long as there is no reaction overnight I will be out there tomorrow," he said. "It's almost unthinkable to miss such an important game in Somerset's history."

Somerset go into their final game eight points behind Nottinghamshire and must beat Lancashire, while hoping the first division leaders fail to beat Hampshire at Trent Bridge, to win the title for the first time in their history.
