Cameron White enjoyed a successful stint with Somerset between 2006 and 2007 and is now poised to return to Taunton
Somerset have confirmed that Australia all-rounder Cameron White is set to return to the club this summer to play in the Friends Provident t20.
He will serve as the county's second overseas player in the revamped Twenty20 competition, alongside Murali Kartik of India.
White first arrived at Taunton in 2006 and made a huge impression in four-day and limited-overs cricket.
As well as scoring over 1,000 first class runs in each of his two seasons with the club, White captained the side in 2006 in the absence of the injured Ian Blackwell and performed admirably in the shortest form of the game, smashing 141 against Worcestershire - a world record Twenty20 score at the time.
He has since gone on to play in 47 one-day internationals for Australia, scoring 918 runs at an average of almost 33 and claiming 12 wickets at 28.
White has also played four Tests and eight Twenty20 internationals, and Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose is looking forward to his return.
Rose said: “What we have is an agreement for Cameron White to play for Somerset subject to the international fixture list and his availability in 2010.
“Cameron looks likely to be available to play for us for most of the Twenty20 games, subject to permissions from Cricket Australia and a work permit from the Home Office, but we don’t anticipate that being a problem.
“This summer England are playing a one-day series against Pakistan and Australia after which he will become available for Somerset. This lookes like being the first two weeks of June, the first two weeks of August and maybe even the last two weeks of July."
“To have Cameron White as well as Murali Kartik in the same team is almost a dream combination. You have got a top-class striker of a cricket ball who can bowl leg-spin and an international left-arm spinner with a great one-day record at the other end.
“Cameron really enjoyed the two years that he spent here and is looking forward to coming back to renew his acquaintance with the playing staff and the crowds.
“We really enjoyed having him here, he played some great innings, especially in the second year, and are delighted at the prospect of him being with us in 2010.”
