Newman makes early departure

Scott Newman leaves Surrey after nine seasons. He was their first player to score double and single hundreds in one match
Opening batsman Scott Newman has left Surrey after the county agreed to release him from his contract one year early.
The 29-year-old left-hander spent the second half of the season on loan at Nottinghamshire although they ended their interest in him last month.
Newman spent nine seasons at the Brit Oval, where he began his professional career, making his debut in 2001.
In 90 first-class matches he averaged 42.69 and featured in 76 List A and 39 Twenty20 games.
Newman’s most memorable Surrey performance came against Glamorgan in 2005 when he struck a career-best 219, having made 117 in the first innings. This feat made him the first person to score both a double and a single century in the same match for Surrey.
Managing director of cricket Gus Mackay said: “I am pleased we were able to come to an arrangement with Scott and we wish him all the best.
“I would also like to thank him for the runs he has contributed to numerous Surrey sides during his long stint at the club.”
