Surrey announce academy intake
Surrey's academy has taken on an 11-strong intake for the 2013 season.
Eleven members of Surrey’s squad came through this system, including England internationals Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker, and many of the current crop will aim to emulate their success.
The players will be based at the county's academy in Guildford. This year’s group consists of Jack Winslade, Tom Curran, Will Rollings, Michael Cousens, Harry Allen, Dominic Sibley, Will Pereira, Amar Verdi, Chris Jones, Ryan Patel and Oli Batchelor.
The intake is larger than normal due to the fact the academy has recently merged with the Emerging Players Programme to create an Elite Player Group.
PG academy director Gareth Townsend said: “It's a great honour to be a part of the PG (Pemberton Greenish) Academy and with 11 graduates of the scheme currently on the club’s professional staff - there is a very clear goal at the end of their programme.
“As well as cricket coaching, we work hard with the players to ensure they are well-rounded individuals at the end of the scheme and I am looking forward to watching their development on and off the field over the next 12 months.
“There is a great opportunity in 2013 within the county second XI and I would expect these players to be pushing for selection.”
