Surrey take time over appointment

Surrey have reiterated they are still in discussion with several candidates for the vacant role of professional cricket manager at the Brit Oval.

Reports had suggested Chris Adams, who stepped down as Sussex captain at the end of last season, is set to take up the position.

Adams would follow Surrey’s recently-appointed managing director Gus Mackay, who moved from Hove in September.

A Surrey statement read: “Further to recent media reports regarding the appointment of a new Surrey cricket manager, the club at this stage are only in a position to confirm that the process is still ongoing.

“To find the right person for the job, a thorough recruitment process was undertaken and discussions have taken place with a number of potential candidates.

“When Surrey County Cricket Club are in a position to confirm the appointment, a further statement will be issued.”

Surrey parted company with previous cricket manager Mark Butcher at the end of September following a disappointing campaign that saw them relegated from Division One of the LV County Championship.
