Manager Mark Robinson said: "We are very excited about the talent and potential that this young batsman holds"
Sussex 18-year-old Matthew Machan has signed the county’s first junior pro contract, tying him to the Twenty20 Cup and NatWest Pro40 champions until the end of 2011.
An aggressive left-handed batsman who has come through the ranks of the youth system and academy at Hove, Machan impressed for Sussex Second XI and in the Sussex Premier League this year.
Professional cricket manager Mark Robinson said: “Matt is a promising cricketer who’s going to be our first ever junior pro.
"He deserves our support to help fulfil his dream of becoming a successful county cricketer and we are very excited about the talent and potential that this young batsman holds.”
Machan added: "I am extremely excited to have signed for Sussex for the next two years.
“I have put a lot of hard work in to getting where I am but realise this is only the start. This is a great opportunity at a very successful club.”
