Sussex leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed will undergo surgery on Monday to determine the extent of his knee injury.
Mushtaq has suffered a fresh cartilage tear and could be ruled out for the rest of the season.
Sussex are hopeful that the tear is a minor one in which case the Pakistani spinner would be available for the LV County Championship game against Lancashire, starting on August 6.
However, an extensive tear would rule Mushtaq out for the remainder of the county champions' title defence.
