Quartet join Sussex academy ranks
Sussex's four young hopefuls will be hoping to impress cricket performance manager Keith Greenfield next season
Sussex have announced their academy intake for the 2010 season, with four new hopefuls joining the junior playing staff.
Owain Jones, John Glover, Hannah Phelps and Lucy Uncles have all been awarded places at the academy for next season, joining Jack Parsons, Adam Davies and Devon Endersby after they retained their places.
Jones, a left-handed batsman and medium paced bowler, earns his place after impressing with the under-17 age group last season - not least when he hammered a top score of 194 not out against Surrey.
Glover, a right-arm fast bowler and hard-hitting lower-order batsman, impressed opening the bowling for the under-17s while also breaking into the second XI towards the end of last term.
Uncles, who plays for Brighton & Hove and has featured for the Sussex senior side for the past three seasons, skippered the under-17s last year.
Phelps, who played her first senior game last season, was also part of Sussex Under-17s last season.
Keith Greenfield, cricket performance manager, said: “It’s exciting to have a new bunch of players and they will bring an energetic boost to the Academy and its programme.
“We are of course pleased to continue the development of the three players that have been retained.”
