Sussex have added a 12th player to their academy intake for 2013, 17-year-old all-rounder Sam Grant.

Sussex have high hopes for Sam Grant, who has become the 12th player to be awarded a place in their academy for 2013

The Brighton College student, who bowls left-arm seam and bats in the top order, plays for Steyning in the Sussex Cricket League.

He was brought to the attention of Sussex’s cricket performance manager, Keith Greenfield, by Les Lenham, who has been involved with the county for 60 years.

“Les approached me earlier in the year about Sam and how well he was developing, so we kept an eye on him and invited him to practice with our development squads and academy,” said Greenfield.

“He performed very well and we had no hesitation in offering Sam a place on the academy. He clearly has the drive to improve his skills and we look forward to helping him achieve his goals and aspirations.”

Sussex last month revealed the names of nine retained academy players, together with two new faces in Leo Cammish and Ben Shoare.
