Brown wants to succeed Giles
Warwickshire assistant coach Dougie Brown has confirmed he will be applying to replace England-bound Ashley Giles as the county’s director of cricket.
Former England one-day international Brown, 43, was a member of Warwickshire’s successful side of the 1990s and the early part of the last decade.
He also assisted Giles, who has been appointed England’s ODI and T20 head coach, in leading the county to the LV= County Championship Division One title this year.
Brown said: “I will be putting my hat in the ring for the director of cricket role.
“I have a bit of experience and it is a help I have worked in this environment for a long time and understand what it entails and the dynamics of the team.

“It will be a big challenge for whoever takes over and Warwickshire’s loss is England’s gain with Ashley’s appointment. Following him will be tough. But I am sure there will be a number of strong candidates for what is a very attractive post.
“It is a settled dressing room, with a great work ethic.”
Brown believes former England spinner Giles merits the opportunity with his country.
He said: “Ash has done so much during the past five years at Warwickshire and it is a great chance for him. He thoroughly deserves it.”
