Troughton handed 2013 benefit

Warwickshire’s long-serving batsman Jim Troughton, who led them to the LV= County Championship title this season, has been awarded a benefit year in 2013.

The 33-year-old left-hander has been affiliated with the club since the age of 11. Having made his senior debut in 1999, he has enjoyed great success in winning the 2002 Benson & Hedges Cup, the 2004 County Championship and the 2010 Clydesdale Bank 40.

Troughton, who succeeded Ian Westwood as captain in November 2010, said: "I am extremely proud to have been associated with Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the last 20 years. It's been a childhood dream come true to be captain of the club and I am delighted to have been awarded a benefit.

Jim Troughton, a 2013 beneficiary, said: "Winning the County Championship this season has been a fantastic achievement."

"I've played with many outstanding players during my time with the club, and the current squad has great potential to dominate county cricket over the years to come. I hope I can continue to lead the them to even more success in 2013."

Director of cricket Ashley Giles said: "Jim Troughton has been a fantastic servant and a great ambassador for Warwickshire cricket since joining the professional staff in 2001. Being awarded a benefit year in 2013 is just reward for his hard work and dedication to the club.

"Well liked and hugely respected, Jim represents everything we stand for at Warwickshire and his leadership of the side was instrumental in bringing home the Bears' seventh County Championship title in its history. I wish Jim a hugely successful 2013 both on and off the field."
